Yard Man Self Propelled Mower
Rating: 4 out of 5
The Yard Man Self Propelled Mower cuts grass efficiently on our one acre property. The mower is model series number 989 and features a 21 inch cutting deck. We also have a riding mower, so we use this mower to trim around trees, garden and edge areas and occasionally to mow the sunnier patches of the lawn that grow faster than the shady areas. It was made in 2006 and we purchased it in 2007.
The mower has six height settings, a recoil starter, drive and blade control, a mulch cover, side discharge, a grass-cutting bag and the handle folds down making it easier to store. The mower can be used for both grass cutting and for mulching. The engine stops when the traction bar is not compressed to keep mowers safe. This is the one thing about the mower I would improve on the mower. While it is a reasonable safety feature, I'd prefer the engine to continue running and have only the blade stop cutting. I also have concerns that this stopping and starting feature could cause additional wear and tear on the engine over time.
The lawn mower is easy to use and works well on our grass. While the riding mower handles the majority of our heavy cutting, I use this mower quite often. This is also the preferred option of people in our household who are not comfortable using the riding mower.
