Neuton CE 5.4 14-Inch 24-Volt Cordless Electric Lawn Mower

Rating: 2 out of 5
  • Currently 2.0/5.0

This is the first electric mower I have ever purchased. We ordered it online directly from the manufacturer, and it retailed for approximately $449.99. Neuton advertises its mowers as well-made and ecologically friendly, but our conclusions as to the quality of this particular model are mixed.

It is a narrow machine, requiring quite a few passes to clip even a small yard. Blade height is easy to adjust (just turn the dial) and as an electric it's effortless to start. This machine is also very quiet and we found it requires virtually no maintenance as it doesn't need oil.

Sadly, we started to notice drawbacks about this mower almost immediately. First, the battery capacity is absolutely terrible. Our yard at the time was not very big but we'd be lucky to get half-way through it before the battery would quit, and the front and back yard would have to be done on different days to allow time for recharging. We ended up purchasing multiple extra batteries (which were not cheap, at approximately $50 each), adding extra cost and hassle. Also, it's an extremely heavy machine and difficult to store.

In addition to the mower itself, we also purchased the optional edger attachment, which affixes to the front of the mower- but it was poorly designed and difficult to use. The mower itself does not turn well and we found that the blade on both the mower itself and the edger became dull very quickly- again incurring more cost as we had to purchase replacement blades.

Ultimately I regretted purchasing this mower within 3 months of its arrival. While I appreciate how quietly it operates and the fact that as an electric it's easy to start- it performs very poorly and was considerably more expensive than similar mowers from other manufacturers. Between the difficult steering and constant changing of batteries, this mower is far more effort than its worth. I will not purchase another Neuton mower.
