Troy-Bilt 20-HP Automatic

Rating: 4 out of 5
  • Currently 4.0/5.0

Overall this mower is a great product. It's easy to use, easy to steer and generally cuts the grass the way that it should. It's price is what you'd expect for a large riding mower, $1200. It really doesn't have a whole lot of features but the ones it has are very useful. The mulching and bagging feature is very nice, especially in the fall when you don't have a lot of time or energy to rake the leaves. It has a strong turning radius, which makes it easy to cut the grass close to trees and other borders. The product is very nice looking in its red color and sleek design. I don't like the way the seat has a spring activation that automatically shuts the mower off if you get up for a second to move something out of your way while mowing or want to empty the bag really quick. I understand that this is a safety feature and I would probably be more thankful for it if I had little kids or a lot of small animals running around. Instead, it's very annoying to have to restart the mower. The other minor problem with the product is it's a little unreliable when the weather isn't perfectly warm. So sometimes when I want to do a quick job in the fall or just transfer some plants I can't get it to start right away. Other products in its class are the John Deer and the Snapper but they are generally a lot more expensive. I'm not sure if they are more reliable than the Troy-Bilt, but I do know my neighbor has the John Deere and it starts for him no matter how cold it is!
