Dirt Devil Featherlite M085590

Rating: 3 out of 5
  • Currently 3.0/5.0

The Dirt Devil Featherlite M085590 vacuum cleaner is an average household vacuum that is able to clean up average household messes. The vacuum works well to spruce up carpets and pick up general dust and debris, but if you have pets, there are stronger options that are going to work better in your home. We have two short hair cats and the vacuum surface cleans, but does not offer much help on areas where the cats sleep and sit on the regular basis. Once pet hair has built up, we use our stronger, industrial wet/dry vacuum for the job.

The Featherlite has a 12-amp motor and the MicroFresh filtration feature claims to trap 99% of dust and allergens. Nobody in our home suffers from allergies or breathing sensitivity, so this is difficult to confirm. Rooms vacuumed with the Featherlite do feel fresher and cleaner after the job is done.

This vacuum is lightweight and easy to carry from room to room. We have a three-story house, so this is a great feature. The vacuum is easy to push and maneuver, but it does have a tendency to be more difficult to use on higher-pile carpet. We have one room with a frieze carpet and vacuuming in there takes about twice the amount of time as the rooms with lower piles. It comes with a hose and several attachments, making it possible to vacuum stairs, upholstery and curtains. Another positive aspect of the Featherlite is the price. It retails for under $50 and for that price it is a quality vacuum.
