The Volkswagon Jetta TDI is the revamped version of Volkswagon's most frequently sold car in America. I chose it because of the Volkswagon reputation and the great gas mileage, as well as the extended life of a diesel engine. The engine has a diesel direct injection system (TDI stands for turbo diesel injection) and has a 14.5 gallon main fuel tank. The car had an original retail value of under $20,000. My car usually gets more than 40 miles per gallon and I fill up the tank about every 500 miles. My model is fully loaded with leather seats with warmer, a six CD changer and a sun and moonroof. It has an automatic transmission, but can change to a clutchless manual transmission.
The 2005 Jetta comes with numerous safety features including a four-wheel anti-lock brake system, an adjustable upper front seatbelt, traction control, daytime running lights, front-side airbags and a head airbag, a child seat lower anchorage, rear seat head restraint, a dynamic front head restraint, an inner trunk release and rear center lap and shoulder seatbelts.
I like the car, but I have dealt with a few issues. I would classify the car as too theft-resistant. I had to have a metal piece removed from my ignition cylinder, which made it impossible to get the key into the ignition. I purchased the car certified used in 2010, but still had to have the alternator replaced and a new battery installed. The car does not operate well in inclement weather, especially snow-driving, which I do a lot of in the Midwest. Overall, this is a good car and I would recommend a Volkswagon to other buyers, but I would encourage them to shop around for a deal and warranty that works for them.
