Whirlpool : DU850SWPB 24 Undercounter Dishwasher Black-on-Black

Rating: 2 out of 5
  • Currently 2.0/5.0

This dishwasher came with our new house, so it isn't a model that we researched or chose for ourselves.

It's a basic model, I suppose, and it does a decent job for what it is. However, if I had purchased this machine myself, I would be a good deal less happy with it.

It is nice looking and gives the kitchen a finished look, since our fridge and stove are also black, but it's a little difficult to maintain the appearance of the outside of the dishwasher. I haven't had black appliances before, so it mat just be inexperience or that I haven't found the right product or cleaning method yet. I seem to spend a lot of time wiping it and touching it up, because every little thing seems to jumps right out at you when you look at it. It also seems to attract dust more than my white or stainless appliances did in the past. I probably will not buy black appliances when we replace these.

As far as performance, the dishwasher does a fairly decent job, but is a little inconsistant. Light soil is easily cleaned, but the pot and pan cycle doesn't seem to get the job done very often for larger or more heavily soiled items. I do rinse the dishes before putting them in, but I don't want to have to wash things by hand before putting them in the dishwasher. I often just go ahead and wash things that I don't think the dishwasher will take care of, such as baking pans and casseroles. My old dishwasher did a great job on even these items, so I'm a little disappointed with the performance of this one.

The machine is fairly noisy, but no louder than other dishwashers I've had, and about what I would expect from a basic dishwasher.
