This chest-style freezer is a mid-size unit. Magic Chef's parent company is Maytag, and they use this label for many of their kitchen appliances. I purchased this unit shortly after moving into our new home, and have installed it in the garage.
Features of this freezer include a little over 12 cubic feet of storage space, which is primarily composed of one large, open storage space. The unit contains two small storage baskets, one affixed to lower right (directly above the compressor and power supply) and a second sliding basket at the top of the unit that can be moved to either end as desired.
Chest freezers in general are quite efficient, and all the documentation we read on this unit prior to purchasing it proclaimed that this model in particular performs well in terms of energy savings vs. other chest freezers of this size. According to the documentation we received with it, the average energy cost of operating this unit for one year is $24- making it an economical and efficient appliance.
My experience with this freezer have been very positive- the entire compartment cools evenly, and we have had little to no problems with frost formation anywhere in the machine. The only reason I rate it at four stars rather than five is the auto-locking feature: This freezer is prone to locking itself at random intervals. I have yet to figure out what causes it to do this, but it can be a cause for irritation at times. I have often found I will take something out of the freezer, go into the kitchen, and then come back to the freezer to return the item only to find that it will not open. Waiting a few minutes will usually be enough for the machine to unlock itself and it will open normally.
