Thermador Model SEC271

Rating: 5 out of 5
  • Currently 5.0/5.0

This Thermador double oven is by the far the best oven we've had in the past 15 years. We've had this one for five years now and haven't had any trouble with it. It has several cooking settings including fast preheat, bake, roast, broil, convection, convection roast, convection bake and convection broil as well as a dehydrator setting. Both ovens have all of these settings as well as timers and self cleaning features. The oven is very user friendly and easy to figure out without the instruction manual. The lower part of the double oven doesn't seem to preheat as quickly as the upper oven but we've found that the temperatures are very accurate when it comes to cooking times for specific recipes.

The convection setting is a unique feature that we've never had before and we rarely use it. It's nice for making roasts mostly but doesn't seem to make that much of a difference in the quality of the food. It just really cooks slower in most cases. The dehydrating feature is nice for dehydrating apples, bananas and sweet potatoes to make healthier snacks for the kids and it gets done much faster than a traditional dehydrating machine.

The self cleaning is extremely easy to use. You just have to pull out all the oven racks, hit the self clean button and walk away. It takes several hours but cleans it really well. We just have to take a damp cloth afterward to take out any left over remnants. There is truly no mess at all.

If I had to pick one criticism it would be the stainless steel. It is difficult to clean like any stainless. We have found that the best cleaning solution is plain warm water with a little dish soap.
