Panasonic - VIERA / 50" Class / 1080p / 600Hz / Plasma HDTV

Rating: 4 out of 5
  • Currently 4.0/5.0

We purchased this TV for the family shortly before Christmas so we could enjoy it while everyone was home from work and school. My husband is a high definition fanatic, so we wanted a TV with excellent picture quality; we also upgraded from a 36 inch to a 50 inch.

The picture is truly excellent. Our previous TV was a 720p and I'm surprised at the difference between it and the 1080p on this TV. We especially enjoy sports viewing and the clarity is to the degree that you can see the expressions on the basketball players faces even from a half court viewing distance. There is also none of the pixelation that we saw during rapid movement sequences on the older television.

It does have one strange quirk: after the TV has been on for a long period, it will go black and the sound will cut out for about three or four seconds, then the picture will reappear and the sound will resume. It was alarming the first time and it can be annoying, but it doesn't seem to be harming the TV so we are just monitoring it to be sure it doesn't get worse.

The sound quality is very good. Music is rich and full, and the voices are clear and well-balanced. I personally don't like the small increments in the volume adjustment. You have to hold the volume button for a few seconds before you can hear a noticeable change in volume. I'd rather the increments were larger and I could turn the sound up or down in just a tap or two on the remote.

I like the grey case on this model. It is less tech-looking than the black ones and is more attractive in my living room. The TV is also Energy Star rated and I hope to see an improvement on my next electric bill.

The price on this model was average. I wouldn't personally have spent that much on a television but my husband considers it an excellent product for the cost.

We have 3 of those Panasonic Viera 1080P's, one 50 inch and two 42 inch. Have had them for several years and never a problem. Picture is fantastic.
Blacking out may be the transmission station not your TV. We have ocassionally had that happen with one of the TV stations but found out it was the TV transmitters having an intermittent problem not our TV.

Does Reviewer get reviews from other people on websites or something? Or does has this user actually bought 2000+ items since 2011?
