Maytag MMV6180WW Microhood Combination

Rating: 3 out of 5
  • Currently 3.0/5.0

We purchased a number of new applicances for our new house in 2008, 1 of which was this microwave. We had been searching for an over-the-range microwave with auto-cook/heat features that use humidity to sense when food is carried out simply because we had a positive experience with this kind of control system on a Whirlpool unit a decade prior to. The salesperson discovered this model for us simply because it matched the Maytag range we also purchased.

Initially we had been extremely happy with our buy - the unit worked well, looked nice and had outstanding features. Nevertheless, after two years the unit stopped working correctly (the internal fan will not shut off unless we leave the door open or unplug the power cord). The unit still works, but this is extremely annoying. A fast web search reveals that other people have had this issue (and that you will find a number of other issues with this model also). Frankly, it is not likely cost efficient to have the unit repaired. I guess I just feel that a microwave ought to last for much more than two years.

We bought this microwave for two reasons... 1) Looks and 2) price. We noticed correct off the bat that the fan on this thing was LOUD! But already being installed and looking great, we opted to leave it. Then we began to notice that it takes a truly lengthy time to heat up food. Significantly longer than we expected based on wattage and definitely a great deal longer than we had been utilized to. These days, after about 10 months, the turntable quit working and it no longer heated. It's still under warranty and will probably be fixed for totally free, but we already went ahead and bought a various microwave. Certain, it is not as great looking as this model, but a minimum of it's working and working well. Hugely disappointing.
