GE 30" Free-Standing Clean Design Electric Range Model JBP62DMWW
Rating: 5 out of 5
GE's 30" Free-Standing Clean Design Electric Range came with the home I purchased 9 months ago. Priced at $549 MSRP, it is one of the least expensive electric ranges on the market, just $50 more than GE's least expensive model. The biggest difference between this model and the less expensive one is that this model has a self-cleaning feature, which can be a great help in cleaning up the mess when dishes bubble over or spill. I would recommend this range to anyone looking for a good-quality, low-cost range. I have never had a problem with this machine, and I use it on a daily basis.
The white range looks great in my kitchen, which has white cabinetry. While it is not flashy in appearance, it is simply organized, which allows for ease of use. The knobs for each burner are clearly labeled with words and pictures that correspond with their respective positions on the cooktop, making it easier to be sure you've turned on the right burner(s). When you select the oven feature, the first temperature to come up is 350, a standard temperature close to other common temperatures. Some ovens start at 0, making the temperature selection process lengthier than necessary. Since the temperature controls are digitized, selecting the appropriate temperature is quite easy. Once you have selected the chosen temperature, you must hit "Start/On" for the oven to begin heating. To keep you from forgetting to start the oven, the range features a beeping alert that goes off a few seconds after the temperature is left alone.
Because it is super-large (5.3 cubic feet) capacity, it can hold multiple dishes at one time. For instance, it can hold two 9x13 casserole dishes or large baking pans on each of its two racks, a feature that comes in handy during special events that require a lot of baking. The oven heats quite evenly, as long as the appropriate rack is chosen based on the thickness of the dish and the nature of the heating/cooking to be done.
I have not yet had to use to self-cleaning feature, but I have had to clear the range of several thick stains created by set-in food and water overflowing from heated pots. While I was nervous that the cleaning process would mar the smooth surface, I was pleased to find that a basic Scotch-Brite scrubbing sponge, Bar Keeper's Friend (a mildly abrasive powder) and a smattering of water obliterated the food gunk and water stains without harming the surface. I was pleased to find that the range stood up to the test of heavy-duty cleaning.
Efficient, inexpensive, easy to use and easy to clean--what more could you want in an electric range?
