As you probably are already aware, there are way more PsyD grads pouring out of the schools than jobs.
A couple of decades ago, when most psychology grads. were from much smaller PhD programs, the new PhD was actually in demand.
Anyway, people I know with Psy.D's from the past 10 years aren't working as psychologists. Instead, they have used their degree to get hired in niche public health jobs or more commonly in social service nonprofits in research capacities.
I certainly would not recommend paying for a Psy.D. Most grads will live the rest of their lives under the debt burden.
The one person I know with this degree works as a professor at a college. I personally would not shell out the money and time for this degree because of the few job oportunities available.
I have a PsyD and work for the VA. Great pay and benefits but depending on where you work, could be like being on a hamster wheel. At the VA, you can work for any of their facilities with a license from any state. Some of the facilities that have a hard time keeping or attracting staff offer student loan repayment options.
