What is marijuana's effect on you?

I have a theory to go along with what its effect on me is. I'll start by saying that I didn't try it until I was 19, almost 20. Prior to that, I had no interest in drugs, although I did have friends who smoked marijuana. What changed my direction in that regard was going on Paxil, an anti-depressant medication specifically for social anxiety. Paxil was my gateway drug. If anybody remember's the anti-depressant TV commercial with the little bouncy people bouncing together in a circle, with one outside that circle by itself and then after it starts taking the medication it joins the circle. Well, that's exactly what happened to me. After I began taking Paxil, I found myself joining in activities I didn't before, and that including trying marijuana. It was all good for a while, a typical phase, and then I found alcohol. I liked alcohol better. I then began hanging with different friends and drinking. I abused alcohol for a long time, and pretty bad. Anyway, so eventually I noticed that when I would smoke marjuana, it was making me paranoid and very nervous.

So here's my theory. I think that because I went hard with a drug (alcohol) that numbed me and sort of detached me from myself and abused it so frequently for so long that it sort of had a therapeutic effect on me, leaving me a bit numb (depressed) and detached or less in touch with myself than I was before I had ever began drinking. I think marijuana originally and always has had the same effect on me and that is that it plants my feet firmly on the ground and puts me very much in touch with myself and enhances my senses. So I think because of the long-term effect alcohol abuse has had on me, when I smoke marijuana it does what it always did and because I've been "detached" from myself so long, I get overwhelmed which is why I get paranoid and so nervous. It's like "whoa, I'm here!". If I'm right, then smoking marijuana and working through that would therapeutically bring me back to a better place, which is to say more in touch with myself.

Does this make sense? Can anybody relate?

If weed makes in touch with yourself ,then u will need it every time to get in touch with yourself which is not goodbecause it is a getaway from reality "life". What u need is to get in touch with yourself without it.

I'd agree being dependent on it isn't good, but I was thinking more of "sessions" to get through the discomfort, which is actually probably something many would think isn't a good idea, but it's an idea nevertheless. Any sort of medicating process is therapeutic to some extent, I think, and will stay with you to some extent, hence the effect alcohol had on me that I described in my original post.

I guess nobody else wants to share here? Maybe people are scared to share? On another forum involving Skyscrapers, nobody had a problem sharing and being rather candid.

How about detoxing all-together and trying to live a healthy, natural life. What a concept, I know.

There is a great book on the subject called "Detoxing" - it's a big, black paperback - you can get it at Amazon.

There are many, many things you can do but the first thing I would suggest is eating an organic diet - fresh foods - whole foods - think about the food and where it comes from - how fresh it is . . . drink lots of water, drink herbal teas, etc.

Also review anything you put on your body (soaps, shampoos, lotions) - there are a lot of what I think are harmful additives in stuff - almost anything multisyllabic, I would eliminate.

Try to use natural cleaning solutions (Mrs. Myers is a a good brand and there are lots of others) . . .

Just think "clean," basically.

I have a friend that has smoked for years. She tells me she needs it to feel creative and process deep thinking. She says she gets great ideas when she smokes. It helps her analyze the bigger picture and provide direction.

Here's the thing, I can always tell when she is high either when she calls me on the phone or emails me. She is scattered brained and her thoughts are a mess. I read her emails and after the first two sentences, its like ahh ok, she must have been high when she wrote this. In her mind, her conversations are crystal clear. All those big plans she thinks about never come to fruition. I have known her for over 20 yrs and its the same thing over and over. She is going to start her own business, she is going to write a novel, etc etc. Personally I think when she comes down, reality kicks in, she doesn't like it and smokes again to dream about what she would like to do.
