Ask all of those anti-smokers if they have a gun in their home.

People still insist on the "right to bear arms" even though it is CLEARLY not the best thing for society, or in fact individuals.

However, they will fight tooth and claw for this right.

It is an analogy to me...the right of the individual in America outweighs the better good - always has done...so none of these hypocrites has a leg to stand on.

You smoke because you live in a free country where it is your RIGHT to die by lung cancer (or friendly fire) if you so choose.

So, SORRY society, but I'm gonna keep smoking... I don't have kids, maybe I just won't further on .. and take myself as a loss.

But, the point is, I HATE those anti smoking commercials, because, A) it's depressing, I hate that 'tone' especially at dinner time when they so often come on, and B) For us who commits to it, we might actually be some decent people you in society don't wanna annoy and **** off so much?!?!? Cause, I'm not 'blaming' those ads for making me like this. I have other issues... it's just, when that ad comes on I gotta switch the channel and yeah, it's just one of "many" things that come on TV or ads that just ticks me off... Like, a need to "control" us. Even if it's good. Like mommy and daddy. What is hollywood, our parents????

Why aren't our real parents telling us??? I don't wanna see no chick with a hole in her throat while I'm eating dinner.

I have my mommy to tell me that....???

She told me when I was 8... I heard it. I chose to smoke anyway, but I don't need to see that hole.

It's not going to change me.

It's only going to add depression, and bad vibes to dinner time.... ?!

Whew... Thank you, I just had to let that out. I'm sorry if I offended anyone, but, now I feel better....
"not wanting to quit and liking smoking" is your addict talking. the brain that is mad when the smoking commercials come on is your rational mind that pops out every now and again, only to get beat back down by your junkie thinking. quitting takes getting a handle on junkie thinking as well as the physical and mental addiction. don't fool yourself into thinking you smoke because you like it or want to because you have a choice. you smoke because you are addicted.

The op doesn't like those ads because it makes denial so much harder.

That's the point, op. That's the point.

It's a kind of immature attitude you have, not that I question your right to hold it. Smoking doesn't JUST affect you. Who's gonna pay your medical bills? Are you children going to look after you when you get lung cancer?

I'd so like to just jump off a cliff and magically just bounce right up again, like in a cartoon or something. I'm SOOO angry that I can't do that!!! . Arghhh, hear me roar!

People should also have the right to die of a heroin overdose, legally.

True, but we don't whine about public service messages telling about the dangers of over eating, or the "don't try this at home" messages before we watchother idiot daredevils on TV, do we?

We all make our choices.
Even the people who make the commercials.

I don't think I understand your point, if you were trying to make one.

My point is that most people make choices in life that are not good for their health. Smoking is one of the more dramatic choices, but others like poor eating, refusing to exersize, having unprotected sex, or maybe enduring too much stress. All of these things can shorten one's lifespan too.

I mean, if I started smoking a pack of cigs a day, maybe I'd die 0-10 years earlier. And if I stopped exersizing, maybe I'd die 0-10 years earlier.

I think the war on smoking is over-the-top. A war on unhealthy eating, now that would really be something.

Yep. When we are young, we don't think about what this will eventually do to us. Maybe the OP does not really care about his own life. Because, quite frankly, when we are handed all the pertinent information and still choose to live a deathwish, we become stubborn beyond our intelligence.

I am an ex-smoker and I loved to smoke. To this day I will stand next to someone who is smoking and enjoy the smell.

All those disgusting ads, warnings, raising the taxes and campaigns aimed at encouraging smokers to quit is a waste of time and money. The only way a smoker will quit is if he/she chooses to quit. No amount of dire warnings will force someone to quit if they aren't ready or don't want to.

In my case, I decided I didn't want to smoke anymore. It was expensive and I was tired of being dependent on a white stick. It was MY CHOICE. The only way I was successful was using Chantix. If I am diagnosed with a terminal illness...I'm going back to smoking!

I cannot stand those anti-smokers who are militant towards smokers. Mind your own business. If the smoke bothers you....either move or stop breathing!
