Ok, first of all, we seem to have some difficulty in defining what AS is. It is a fairly low-consequence high functioning form of autism. Gee, do I have Asperger's? I don't know. I just got back from vacation. I love airplane and train schedules you can pick up in stations/airports and tend to remember what I read, I love seating charts for aircraft, and I love maps and make mental images quickly. Many boys like maps - boys tend to score higher in spatial ability as youngsters.
So, then, who diagnoses Asperger's? How many iterations does it take to make a diagnosis? What about the many people who have gone through life without a diagnosis that might have some degree of this affliction? In fact, they say there are careers that are better suited for people with this than others?
Again, who makes the diagnosis and on what criteria?
My sons were diagnosed with Aspergers between the ages of 6-8. With my oldest son I knew something was wrong when he was about 4, but the doctor said he was too young to diagnose (although that was 21 years ago and I am sure they diagnose earlier now). They had all kinds of tests plus they saw a child psychologist. They even had genetic testing. They had IQ tests, SIB-R's, many tests I don't even remember the names of. They are all young adults now, but still have to get evaluated every couple of years to continue qualifying for services. They have DD services 3-4 days a week and counseling weekly. The DD services teach them and help them with lifeskills.
you can take a series of diagnostic tests usually administered by a psychiatrist who specializes in autism spectrum disorders or a neuroscientist (I think).
I've been diagnosed with Asperger's by several mental health professionals, who also diagnosed my PTSD and depression, which then evolved into more of dysthymia. Other than mental health professionals, I don't know who else is considered licensed to diagnose Asperger's--maybe neurologists? I don't know.
So, is digging on airport/train station schedules and knowing various aircraft seating charts, per my OP, one of the quirky markers of Asperger's? Just wondering.

Depends on how deep it is , or is it just a hobby.

I think it would be definitely I don't know anyone else that would have that as a 'hobby.' they mention something about fascination with trains/public trans schedules in one of those tests too.
My son had been diagnosed with adhd, conduct disorder, and bipolar disorder before being diagnosed with Asperger syndrome. A psychiatrist, neurologist, and a psychologist all agreed that this is what my son had. He was probably about twelve when this happened.

But how is he doing? Is he doing well? The capabilities and gifts of people with AS can be channeled into productive channels, from what I read.
