Is dream interpretation valid? Everyone has them. Some common ones run through people's stories:

- being late for, or missing, an exam
- flying
- people from HS (or college) showing up in geographic places that they wouldn't have any reason to be

What's your thought? Meaningful, or just the mind coasting in neutral?

I think some dreams mean something and some don't. I think dreams are just parts of our subconscience and they happen when you haven't dealt with certain guilts or stresses, or when something in life needs changing or has changed. I think it's like life's mental volcano. I mean that when things build up in life dreams happen as a way of release or acknowledgment of certain situations in life. I haven't had dreams for years, but just this past few months I've had around 15 to 20 days where I woke up remembering having dreams. I'm no expert, but this is my theory after going so long without dreams and then all the sudden when life got really rough last year I'm now having dreams again. Life has always been rough, but this past couple years has been the most trying time in my existance.

I have some girls from my youth (HS, college) show up in my dreams. I have met them later in life and am not interested. There's been too much physical and cultural change to make anything of it. Yet, about once a month, they show up in my dreams ... not in a one-on-one manner, but as part of a larger plot. Not sure what this means.

I think they do, but not all though. I've read up my dream "meanings" on the dream interpretation websites and sometimes they fit in with how I'm feeling about things. But sometimes I have to think about it for a little bit as the meanings can be highly abstract.

Honestly, I think those random dreams we get from time to time don't really mean much but dream themes that reoccur are ones that do have meanings to them.

Lately, I've been having dreams of being back in high school, walking through the hallways and having to take some kind of a test. I've also been having a lot of dreams of seeing my old classmates as well and have been dreaming about an old friend of mine too. According to dreamforth.com, a major theme of these recurring dreams are that I have past issues that need to be addressed and also that I'm feeling unfulfilled about something. What these things are in my real life, I don't know. But I guess it's something since I keep have the same kinds of dreams. Other dreams I've been having frequently are of my recently deceased cat, of being in a large store and riding a bicycle in my neighborhood.

I've also had quite a few dreams that have predicted future events. One I had was about my grandma. Towards the end of this dream, she was laying down in a ambulance bed with her mouth open and in dire conditions. Then the next year, she unexpectedly passed away, was put on a ambulance bed and looked exactly the way I saw her in my dream. I think my dream was warning me about my Grandma's coming death.

I had a dream earlier this year that something had happened to my cat and he passed away a couple months after this dream.

Last week, I had a dream I was riding a bike with my cat back to my house and as I crossed the street, I dropped him but went back to pick him up. Then the next day, as I was heading back home from doing errands, I saw a dead cat in the exact same spot where I dreamed I dropped my cat in my dream the night before.

Think of dreams as movies, all written and directed by your subconscious.
If you think back during your day you may find things that popped up later during your dream. It could have been a passing thought, a TV show, something you heard on your way home from work, any of these kind of things can be woven into a dream.
As for dream interpretation, only the dreamer can possibly interpret a dream correctly.

Think about these examples from a dream interpretation site:
Ocean
To see an ocean in your dream represents the state of your emotions and feelings. It is indicative of spiritual refreshment, tranquility and renewal. Alternatively, the dream means that you are feeling empowered and unhindered. You have a positive outlook in life and are not limited by anything. If you are sailing across the ocean, then it signifies new found freedom and independence. You are showing great courage. If the ocean is rough, then the dream represents some emotional turmoil. You are doing your best to handle life's ups and downs.

The only time I can remember an ocean in my dreams I was either being murdered or swept out to sea. That dream interpretation sure doesn't seem to fit my dream.

Snow
To see snow in your dream signifies your inhibitions, unexpressed emotions and feelings of frigidity. You need to release and express these emotions and inhibitions. Alternatively, snow means that you are feeling indifferent, alone and neglected. If the snow is melting, then it suggests that you are acknowledging and releasing emotions you have repressed. You are overcoming your fears and obstacles. If you are driving in the snow, then it means that you need to be extra cautious about how your approach your goals.

To see dirty snow in your dream refers to a lost in innocence, impurity and uncleanness. Some aspect of yourself or situation has been tainted.

To dream that you are watching the snow fall represents a clean start and a fresh, new perspective. It is indicative of spiritual peace and tranquility.

To dream that you are playing in the snow indicates that you need to set some time for fun and relaxation. Alternatively, the dream means that you need to take advantage of opportunities that arise; otherwise such opportunities will disappear.

To dream that you find something in the snow suggests that you are exploring and accessing your unused potential, abilities, and talents. You have uncovered some hidden talent and ability within yourself. It may also refers to a need to forgive.

I recall having a dream not too long ago which featured snow. When I woke up from the dream I was freezing. My husband had rolled over and pulled the entire sheet off me.

Socks
To dream that you are wearing socks signifies warmth and comfort. Alternatively, to see socks in your dream indicate that you tend to yield to other's wishes. You are flexible and understanding in your thinking.

To see a single sock in your dream is a pun on hitting someone or being hit. Or perhaps the dream means that you have been hit with some surprising information or news.

In the same snow dream, I paused to check out some socks. I figure that must have been because my feet felt like ice when I woke up.

I have had a lot of trauma in my life, as a result my nightly dreams are crazy and strange. BUT, last night I had a lovely little dream about a famous actor! Quite juvenile but very fun!
On a serious note....
I believe dreams are a way that our mind processes information.

I think there's something to them. Especially if there are patterns, and the same people show up.

I personally think that the dream experience is different for each individual. In my case, I firmly believe that dreams are 100 percent useless and completely meaningless. Most of my dreams are irrational anyways, and can't even be applied to the real world. Dream analysis was the core study of Sigmund Freud and I think his theories are ridiculous. People can assign meaning to anything if we look hard enough to find connections-- irrelevant in most cases-- between events in one life and a particular element in a dream. But I did qualify this claim in my first assertion because there are some cases where people experience dreams that resemble some bit of their unconscious thoughts.
