I think sneezing into your hand is kinda gross. Then you gotta take yourself and your hand to some washroom which may not be around. I turn my head away from anyone and sneeze into my shoulder into my pulled-out shirt, if I don't have a tissue.

Talk about reflexes, who here sneezes when they look into the sun?

This is not just something women do, in any case. It's just a natural human reaction to surprise, who knows why it evolved? At some point in time it must have served some purpose.

I don't mean sneezing into your hands, just that when you sneeze, your hands automatically fly up there, it doesn't involve forethought in the slightest.

I think sneezing when you look at the sun is pretty unique, lol.

What I hate is when people sneeze and then blow it into their sinuses! Ouch! That can't be good for you!

Ya know what I mean? It makes a "Nnnnnkkzzz" noise instead of an "achoo" noise.

That's just gross!!!

I sneeze in the sun as well, it drives me nuts when it happens while I'm driving. It's genetic, it actually occurs in about 17%-35% of the population.

I don't with the sun, but often do when using computers. Called the photic sneeze reflex. Drives me crazy.

When I found this site I thought I would get a professional reason from a physiologist , not a lot of maybe's, although interesting I would like a viable answer.

Do you think that the forum is staffed with professional physiologists? Or psychologists, for that matter?

I think that some gestures help when you don't know what to say. You're reacting, don't have to find words. Though I know that when I cry or when I laugh really hard, I cover my face with my hands, hiding as much as possible of it, because I think my face looks all distorted and weird. I feel an embarrassment when I am not in control of myself.

Someone mentioned the "fanning yourself" motion...for me, I only would use that as I would the back of the hand to forehead gesture, which is to say, in an exaggerated and dramatic way, probably when I'm joking. Like if I am pretending to be turned on by something in a silly way, something that isn't necessarily even sexual, like an expertly crafted spreadsheet with complex formulas, or a description of a variety of fancy cheeses. A sharp finish with hints of merlot? Stop it. You're making me blush... And the hand-fanning thing to add to the "I may have a fit of the vapors" act. I really like cheese, but I am certainly exaggerating for effect.

I don't do it if I think I'm going to cry.

But I think that the OP mentioned examples from TV and I would not look there for realistic behavior examples, since people on TV are supposed to be "acting" and it can be over the top sometimes. If someone did a lot of this kind of thing in normal interaction, I would think of them as being a rather dramatic individual, and it might annoy me.
