Peace be on you. Many times, people just show reflective manners in their conduct. When some one is nice and courteous to other person. The other person is most likely to react in same tone. But when one is aggressive, insulting or rude, the reaction is going to be the almost same.

Sometimes, it is like to stop a train when one tries to apply brakes on the self to stop the self to react the aggression of the other person. If successful, the first step toward morals has been taken.

Thus talking and behaving nice to others is essential for inner and external peace.

Yes, you're talking about the golden rule, or reciprocity-
echoing the character of the behavior of whomever one is in conversation/contact with.
"Intensity-matching", as it's called sometimes-
and matching the flavor (sweet or sour) of one's communicative partner.

It is difficult sometimes, though, to be nice to someone who is aggressive and rude (in my opinion) because it seems that the rude person acts even MORE hostile when I react in a kind way. Almost as if he is testing me to see how far he can go before I react negatively.
Which is sad. One would think a person might soften a bit while in the presence of a kind individual.
