Personally, I am on call 24-7-365.
If I miss a call, I could miss-out on making between $1600 - $9000
If that bothers someone, I really don't care.
(although I do go to vibrate in a theatre or something similar)

That could be...could also be that they're waiting for an important job interview call, and they want to make SURE they hear it.

If my phone rings in a public place i answer it as fast as i can or mute the sounds. Normally, i have my phone on vibrate. Its funny how people will just sit there and stare at the phone and let it ring 5 times before answering it...i see this all the time, its really annoying and i'm just not sure why people don't just answer the phone or mute the sound?

I don't think there is anything wrong with having audible notifications in most public places. Of course during a show or a meeting or at a library it wouldn't be appropriate. I think the OP is hyper sensitive. I understand that. I am hypersensitive about certain things, but I realize it is me, not everyone else.

They do it because they are rude, ignorant and inconsiderate.

I 100% agree. It's one thing if I am at Panera, I expect that. However, if I am at the movies then that shouldn't be happening.
