Maybe this has been discussed before, if so sorry. But have you ever wondered how you ended up in your body ? What I mean is, have you thought about how your spirit, or whatever it is, wound up in the body you have.

We could have easily been born into someones body in India, or France, or wherever, but by some quirk of nature our brain (and whatever thought processes it has) decided to inhabit us, and we ended up in Texas, or New York, or someplace like that.

Also, why were we born in the particular time period we are in ? Some believe in reincarnation, but for the purposes of this discussion we will say we only have one shot at life and here we are in 2013. I don't dwell on this subject a lot, but have wondered from time to time why I am me and not someone else ?

I've only had one beer tonight, so that isn't my reason for posting this, just wondering if anyone else has thought about this.

Don

I don't think my spirit/soul existed before I was born. Consciousness is a result of the physiological and biological processes of the brain. Once the brain dies, it's gone.

An excellent question as to why we ended up in the body we inhabit. I haven't wondered about that before; though I have wondered what the entire life thing is all about.

As far as reincarnation: all any of us can do is guess, same as what truly happens to our spirit once we die. There are numerous stories of people being hypnotized and speaking of past lives, and there are people who believe we have certain abilities brought forward from past lives. I think it's pure speculation; but that is my thinking, and that's about all it is, just thinking.

I feel like I've lived many lives and have been called an old soul before and wise beyond my years despite being 23. I have also had what I consider to be flashbacks from previous lives, especially from one life in particular.

It's one of the reasons 'why' I have no fear of death. You just move on to the next as nothing in the universe truly dies.

Nope. My mother and father had sex, therefore I am. My body was first, environment and my character made inside of my body. I am not a flying spirite, sorry. But you can be if you wish.

Psychologist Carl Jung would attribute your individuality to the specific date, exact time, and precise place you were born---yes, using astrology, which he accepted---and he would say that unique pattern of your natal chart displays your individual manifestation of universal archetypes.

Don't get me wrong, I probably wouldn't trade my life or myself for anyone else's life , if I had the chance, but sometimes I just think how fortunate I was to be born in this time and in this place. I could have been born as someone living in some 3rd world country, just trying to survive, but instead I live in a really good country, in a pretty safe time in history (compared to the Spanish inquisition period, for example )
