What is the appeal of talking to yourself, I mean, why do you guys do it??

I can understand it helps you in a situation where you are very scared and you calm yourself down.

But besides that ... WHY??

Why not just talk in your head, I mean, it really makes no difference other then less people thinking you are nuts.

I think it helps to sort things out and focus. Or maybe I just like the sound of my own voice. LOL

I used to talk to myself all the time but I developed a stutter and didn't have the time to listen to myself so whenever I would start talking I would just walk away.

I don't really care if I do or not. I do when people ask me about myself, other than that I don't.

If I'm angry I'll yell at myself. I sing all the time if I'm alone. Sometimes I'll talk gibberish nonsense just because.

Yes, and I answer back also. But I am not answering myself, the best way to describe it is that there are two people in my head.

Default Oh, someone said they have done it

since a small child. I think I got in the habit also when I was little because I was an only child living out in the country and no playmates. One time, when I thought no one could hear me, I was play-acting and doing all the characters and my mother said, "Who are you talking to???" It was embarrassing, but it does help center me and lets me focus; probably an anxiety release, too.

It is quite normal to talk to one's self at times. The problems arise if you talk to your self and turn your head and ask:

"Can you speak up? I didn't hear you."
