I used to be numb and I didn't know why. Then I discovered that the numbness was actually covering many feelings that were unbearable for me to face at the time. Over time, I started to feel those feelings little by little, and then I could integrate them and did not need the numbness anymore.

Oh yes, I know that feeling. Best thing you can do is fight it...FIGHT. Never get too comfortable. If it hurts to do (whatever it is) is a signal that you should be doing it.

Every day do something that is hard but is also good for you. Don't worry about habit or routine. Just do something. One day at a time. It builds on itself and one day you will look back and not recognize who you are today.

You have work to do, and since you are beset with these desires to be numb, it will not be easy.

VISUALIZE a life where you are not so stressed and wishing to hide, to be numb.

Now, what can you do to change your life and nudge it to be that life you envisioned?

It does not have to be a grand vision. Just a little niche where you feel you can be happy and safe.

Good luck, because you sound very stressed and sad.

There is a lot to be said for a life without feelings -- "numb" as you called it. In such a life there are no disappointments, no failures, no second-place finishes.

However, there is a lot MORE to be said for a life with feelings -- where there are both disappointments and triumphs, both failures and successes, and where -- occasionally -- one finishes in first place.

Like it or not, human beings are emotional creatures. Cutting off ones feelings is like living half a life.

Now, if you truly feel this way -- as opposed to simply posing an intellectual question -- may I suggest contacting a mental health professional? I mean, a really good one...
