I think some of you are intermixing getting angry over things (I happen to be a "thrower") and remaining calm in a crisis situation (hurricane, flood, accident, etc.), which I also am. One reason I have multiple certifications in Emergency Planning.
The ability to think clearly, anticipate problems and form and implement plans to "fix" a bad situation is a learned ability (with a healthy input from base personality).
I had my boss ask me a couple years ago how I was able to stay calm during a serious incident at school. The teacher beside me started to laugh (he was a retired USN Weapons Systems Officer) and remarked that the Principal didn't know what training I'd had (USN Naval Aviator), which was true. That tends to instill calmness in emergencies. That other teacher had been one of my instructors in Flight School.
maybe your calm, cool, and collective is perceived by others as being slow, cant shift gears, and aloof
years ago , I worked in a very physically demanding work environment,,, and there was some very quick, productive workers, and then there were the sloths.... just couldn't shift gears,
and when it was necessary,, the calm cool collective workers, were not the "go to" workers,,,sometimes they got in the way
if this isn't it,,,,and they are shunning you- double check your hygiene,,,
I think that some of the posters here don't quite understand what it means to be calm, cool and collected.
tijlover: The type of person you are describing is not calm and collected but someone who suppresses their emotions. Big difference.
A calm, cool and collected person is someone who in stressful situations acts with a sense of urgency as in they understand the gravity of the situation and know that something must quickly be done but they do not panic because they know the best course of action and promptly act.
