People make fun of things they don't, won't or are incapable of understanding. I was a vegan for 12 years for ethical reasons and faced constant good natured ribbing because of my diet. However, the entire time I was vegan, I also worked as a concrete carpenter.......and smart people will only make just so much fun of you when you're 6' 190 lbs and healthy as a horse.
On the other side of the coin, I returned to being a carnivore 10 years ago, gained about 100 pounds and now peeps probably make fun of me for being fat - albeit behind my back.
Let them make fun. If you know your stuff, you know that your diet is more globally conscious, more humane and far healthier. You can go laugh at them while they're in the hospital for a cholesterol induced heart attack or colon cancer from years of meat rotting in their intestines.
