That's what happened to my brother. He was a depressive who smoked both cigarettes and pot plus was a functioning alcoholic. He didn't take kindly to anyone expressing concern. It all caught up to him when he died of lung cancer at age 56.

False. It depends on the person. I am very addicted to cigarettes but that's all. I've done some drinking in my life, taken pain pills, and even tried addictive illegal drugs. I've never become addicted to those. It's just the cigarettes. After quitting for a long time, I'm back to smoking, although a lot less than before. I'll quit again eventually. Nicotine is the most addictive substance known to exist, thus many people who are addicted to smoking are just like me and not addicted to anything else. The current attitude of demonization of smokers now is very tiring, however. Since cigs continue to be legal, it's hypocritical to treat smokers like they are criminals, especially since the majority of us aren't obnoxious about it. Also, Americans engage in all sorts of other dangerous/unhealthy habits (texting and driving and unhealthy eating patterns causing extreme obesity come to mind) and there is much less complaining about those.
