I always hear people saying that they hate "stupid people." People who aren't very bright can't help it, so I wonder why it is considered perfectly acceptable by most to give them a hard time. One of my best friends has average intelligence at best and he is a very kind, considerate person. He's a great person and I enjoy being around him a lot more than I enjoy being around intelligent people who are rude or arrogant. I guess I just don't get the reasoning behind hating people simply because they aren't bright.
For me it's ignorant people I don't like. People who know very little irritate me. For example, I dated someone whose mom couldn't hold a conversation unless it had to do with cooking, cleaning, home decorating, or what she saw on Fox News. Otherwise she knew nothing else and was a major bore.

And were you able to hold up your end of the conversations about cooking, cleaning, home decorating? If not, she probably thought you were ignorant.

You have no one to blame but yourself for your irritation. That lady does not exist to entertain you.
One thing I'm beginning to notice about society is people have this expectation that others are here to entertain them and have no lives or interests of their own and when other people do not entertain them they resort to childishly insulting those who failed to entertain them by calling them boring or stupid instead of simply doing the mature thing by keeping their interactions with them brief or not interacting with them at all and finding someone you click with.
It's really a mark of self-absorption to get so annoyed because some people don't share your interests that you feel the need to insult them.
Usually "stupid" people make bad choices....People who make enough bad choices usually end up on welfare & I hate paying for other peoples mistakes...
I agree. There is no excuse for ignorance here in the USA with free education and the internet and libraries. There is enough info out there to gather info to make intelligent decisions and to be able to converse nicely with almost anyone.
I don't hate stupid people but I have no respect and no patience with them. They chose to be stupid and I don't have to deal with it. And yes, I do resent paying taxes to support people who make stupid choices.
Honestly, In a way I have sometimes envied the ignorant people. A times they seem so much happier because they have simpler lives and just don't "know"...understand where the "ignorance is bliss" saying came about.

These people are probably just trying to boost their ego for whatever reason....
