As far as dating? Well, would you want to be with someone who is negative and thinks most everything will go wrong; or be with someone who is positive and finds the best/brighter side of everything that happens?
I've been around negative people, and they drain the life out of everyone. Positive people that look at the good of every situation will lift you up.
I've heard thinking positive makes things happen. As opposed to thinking negative makes nothing happen. So is thinking positive the right thing to do to make things happen.

It is definitely better to think positive. However, positive thinking in most cases must be followed by positive actions.
Yes, being positive does make a difference because nobody likes being around a negative person. Those people are the destroyers of happiness in the room. And who wants to be tethered to that?
Yet, on the other hand, very few wants to be around an aspiring cast member of Up With People either, with their cloying bromides and rah-rah slogans.
Instead, choose quiet optimism. Happiness is indeed a choice in life, but happiness should be self-evident in you, rather than inflicting it on others.
Hee-hee. This is funny to me because i actually LIVED WITH a cast member from "Up with People." She was a great person and not even close to being a "rah-rah" type of person. Very serene. Good people.
But to the OP,
Happy thoughts do not always lead to "happy outcomes." Nor does "destiny" or fate. Search "Chaos Theory."
Sure it can help. But even better when you connect it with what Auraliea said: think positive and don't give a damn about trivial matters (especially those you have to influence on) - you will feel better and happier right away. Just one thing: don't sprinkle that onto everybody. Don't preach and let others have their crappy days.
Yes, positive thinking can make things happen! So far as setting realistic goals that is. It has worked for me, although I should also say I am a very hard worker. I don't just wish things to happen. For example I may want a job promotion - study two years in every spare minute of my time, and then achieve that goal.
What has worked best for me is steps - take the next logical step toward whatever I want. I may have a longer term higher goal too. Then I thoroughly research what is required to reach the next step, and then do what is needed. (Lots of hard work!)
Also look "backwards" at people who have achieved great things. Maybe an excellent ice skater. She may make it look easy as she skates and twirls around on the rink. But go ask her what she had to do to get to that level of skill!
