I'm wondering if a person can be both extrovert and introvert? I seriously love social gatherings and talking to people. I love dressing up and talking to strangers and learning about there lives etc. I also love seeing my guests leave and go home!!! I love staying at home and watching Netflix with my doggies or shopping and seeing a movie alone. Is this unusual or pretty much normal? Most people that know me would announce without hesitation say that I'm an extrovert but, clearly, they don't know the part that I choose for them not to know about me

You can be an introverted person with an extroverted persona, meaning you act like an extrovert in social settings to avoid the awkward questions and comments introverts get. An introvert charges his/her batteries when alone or with significant others, while an extrovert charges his/her batteries when in social settings. An introvert is drained by social stimulation while an extrovert is energized by it. You sound like you are somewhere in between.

I would say you are an "ambivert". I am somewhat like that. I love, love, love being around people. But I also relish plenty of alone time. However, what I like about being around other people is just being around them. I'm not a fan of a lot of conversation. I can easily get tired of talking, but I nonetheless enjoy being in a lively place around other people. I can easily get lonely if I'm alone for too long. So...I don't know if I am either an introvert or an extrovert. I would say I am somewhere in between the two.

I am an introvert, but I had to often fake being an extrovert because of my job.

If you take the Meyer-Briggs Personality Inventory test on line, it will tell you to what degree you are an extrovert, plus the other three categories as well (Sensing vs. Intuitive, Feeling vs. Thinking, and Judging vs. Perception.) In my experience and those of my acquaintances, this test is VERY accurate. I am an INTJ, but I am very close in the middle two categories -- (NT) and fairly strong -- but not extremely so -- in the other two (IJ).

Isn't it great that we are not all the same?!

I'm pretty much this:

Hi! Come sit by me!

For now.

Okay, now go home.
