I love old TV! I'll go through waves where I like watching an old sitcom.
I always come back to The Golden Girls. There's a lot of historical references and mores in there that are always fun to spot too.
Like they are ALWAYS wearing panty hose even w open toed shoes. And Sophia "recently" asked while eating a flag cookie on fourth of July, "I wonder how George Bush feels about eating the flag?" (And she meant Bush #1!)
Utterly ridiculous. The shows of the past were infinitely better than the crap today. I would say that people who watch these shows prefer the higher standard.
Those people need to develop better sense, since the shows of today are better suited for kids or immature adults.
I've often wondered this, as I almost exclusively watch "in the past" shows. I don't have cable and don't even miss it, as I love Movies! Channel, Antenna TV, Cozi, etc....and I have Netflix, where i'm working my way through Adam-12, Dragnet, Twilight Zone, Andy Griffith and Leave It To Beaver.
I also buy entire series off of Amazon like Police Woman and there are tons of stuff on Youtube (Brady Bunch, vintage movies, etc)
The only thing I don't like about the classic TV stations is that they play a lot of funeral commercials ahahahaaa
I have a fixation on the past and spend a lot of time watching old TV shows for that reasons, or historical documentaries about just about anything. I think that in my case, my obsession with certain eras is somewhat unhealthy.
However, that woman who changes the channel obviously demands outright rejection of everything from the past and cleanse society's memory of anything that isn't related to shiny computers and smart phones. I would consider that profoundly ignorant and shallow.

Since you mentioned Andy Griffith, Leave It To Beaver and Twilight Zone, I've been watching AG because
of it's simplicity, humor and a general regard for kindness plus doing the right thing (all on dvd since
I've had my fill of commercials). Is there a Mayberry anywhere out there?
I also watch a lot of historical documentaries as mentioned by micC and pbs. As the saying goes,
you''re never too old to learn or keep learning.
The only problem with watching channels with the old, superior shows is all the health, life insurance, elderly care, and funeral expense commercials they run.
