I have a loved one in my life that apparently has Aspergers (mid 30s). This is NOT an official diagnosis, because she would never ever never consider getting any kind of help, but I have consulted with two mental health professionals, and that's their "educated best guess" on this. Sadly, that's all I can go on for now.
I'm looking for a book that will help me figure out how to deal with her. She's a family member, and very ugly at times, and yet I won't (and don't want to) evict her from my life. She's chronically miserable, sometimes rages, and can't keep a job or even a friend. It's heart-breaking.
I'm hoping a book will help me sort some of this out.
Tony Attwood's "Complete Guide to Asperger's Syndrome" (2003).
However...without the person in question "buying in" to this notion, I don't know quite how helpful any book could be.
No matter what the issue with another person, there's only so much one can do to deal with that person's diagnosis/temperament/personality style,
until that person can openly consider "does this label describe me ?" (rather than dismissing the possibility w/knee-jerk defensive reflex).
