I don't notice locked threads half the time. I judge whether or not to read threads by the title. If the thread is locked or not and does not seem to interest me, I don't bother.
Honestly, I don't have any interest in reading a thread I can't post on. Messageboards are interactive, to me, and when I start to see a lot of locked threads (which seem to be becoming more frequent on these forums, particularly in certain subforums), it makes me less likely to stick around in general. The worst is when an ongoing, engaging discussion you've been actively engaged in gets locked for no particularly discernable reason. It's like, "Why did I waste my time?"
Read the whole thread ? Usually, no.
Though I admit, a "locked" icon inspires some curiosity that I'd lack otherwise.
I'll hover mouse over title so I can see first few lines of OP
(often, that's enough for me to go "oh, this is not going to end well"),
and rarely I'll skim final page to see how it played out.
My motivation is more forensic in nature (educational autopsy on forum etiquette) than it is for gawking purposes:
I want to figure out what went wrong there, so I don't accidentally make the same mistake.
