Though using "that" in the example bolded above is no longer considered incorrect, I'd think a proud grammar Nazi would find "folks who are educated" preferable to "folks that are educated."
People who are irked by grammatical errors might be those who write good...er ..well, and believe that this superior ability that they possess must be linked to intelligence, an intriguing writing style and good content. I take a less academic approach to appreciating a poster's writing. A musician who is burdened with perfect pitch might go to a concert of a world class concert performer and can't help but to comment on the performer's "pitchy-ness " even though they themselves with this superior ability can't perform.
It a new day folks posting will not ever be done to get an A+ in comp 102 or ever rise to the level of a dissertation in English lit ,if it did it would not be posting. Posting is at best an approximation of writing.
This doesn't even make any sense. Academic or not, if one has been "dumbed down" enough to not be able to use proper grammar, punctuation, and correct spelling to the point that I have to WORK to understand what they are trying to convey, I'm out. No response from me. Thanks for playing.
My corporation always just hired me an ugly introverted lonely retired English teacher.. I was too busy building America.. Oh but you can spell and use proper commas hahahaahah tell me how that's working for you the next time your in the flipping dark or the cold etc etc etc.. BTW I have worked with Physicist that spelled terribly..

Truly intelligent people don't "take off" and start misspelling because you're not "writing for work" or a grade. An educated person reaches a point at which it's painful to make spelling/grammar mistakes.
It happens, yes, and typing a lot on phones makes it harder, but being lazy and not even trying is 1) a negative trait, and 2) makes the reader's job harder.
If you really want help and information, you don't make your potential helpers work twice as hard by navigating your spelling and grammar errors.
It's about people writing things like "its not important to write with good grammer and capitol letters its just a forum its not like you're opinion matters to me," because they truly don't know that the difference between "it's" and "its," "your" and "you're," and they don't understand run-on sentences. It's about spelling "grammar," "grammer," because you don't know any better, and writing "capitol" when the contextually appropriate word is "capital," because you don't know the difference and don't care to look it up.
Those are things that cause others to judge a poster's intelligence, and consider a poster to be a sloppy and/or lazy writer. This is reality.
Whats with people here mAking a deal out of spelling?
Its a forum where you create threads and get help and information
My problem is I type with two fingers and I have big fingers and auto correct. And I'm in a iPad which I'm not as good on as a laptop. Again big fingers and a keyboard that has no feedback. So sometimes its literally what you would imagine if you set a chimp in front of my iPad and what a chimp would type if a chimp could type
I had a few smart azzes send me a note on correcting me. Of course too chicken scratch to actually leave their SN
Haven't you noticed? As the human race heads for extinction, more intense concentration on "leeves", and losing sight of the tree, and the forrest!
Sheesh! The other day I was chewed out because someone discovered I gave my pet tap water instead of bottled water! And 70% of bottled water is untested!
It doesn't bother me to run into so many peeple with their heads in the sand, but not those that submerge their head and upper torso into the sand!
I generally don't correct peoples' spelling and grammar, because I have a son with an IQ of 135 who is also dyslexic. I know that some people truly have serious challenges with spelling and grammar, and I'd rather hear what they have to say than squelch their conversation by nit picking.
UNLESS: (Yep, there's an "unless!")
Occasionally I'll see someone post a "correction" or a pious post correcting other people - and often that very post contains spelling or grammatical errors! Or I'll see someone getting sanctimonious and pretentious, and claiming that someone else is "uneducated" or "ignorant," and yet, their own posts are full of errors. In that case, I feel an almost irresistible urge to knock them off their high horse!
