Think about it, if a person has zero empathy and basis decisions strictly on logic and has no emotions or feelings but logically knows what is right in wrong insomuch as who are the bad guys then wouldn't that make them a very efficient killing machine? Someone that can kill bad guys and never feel pity, remorse or fear and can continue to kill the enemy without feelings or emotions getting in the way?

Sounds like someone with severe psychological issues. Contrary to what some might think, even the Marines don't want that type of person in their ranks. War is dehumanizing enough. The armed forces don't need folks that already possess that type of baggage.

Different people are motivated in different ways. Some want to help others, others seek personal gain, others seek peer approval.

It is good to know and understand what motivates you. So that you can understand why you do things, and how others may attempt to control you.

It can be helpful to understand how other people are motivated, before you attempt to control the actions of others.

People without a lot of empathy are no different. They may have less empathy then others, but they are still motivated by other things.

Having more empathy than the average person can be emotionally crippling. Having less empathy can be considered an illness.

Data from Star Trek may have been a neat character to think about. Nobody In-Real-Life is an autonomon.

zero empathy sounds like psychological disorder.

To me, I think character is one aspect being a good Marine. Being highly dedicated to excellence in your craft is another. (physical fitness, skills, education, (maybe self education), professional knowledge) Motivation and courage (both physical and moral) are important to being a good Marine.

From what I know, The Corps is a LEGACY, given as a gift from those men that served before them, and it is the responsibilities of every Marine to keep it alive.

To me, a good Marine is a good person, a true warrior. Marine Corps does not need anybody with psychological issues.

I expect I'll live long enough to see real autonomous robots on the battlefield.

Zero empathy means voted most likely to commit war crimes. No, it is not a positive trait.

Rah! I agree completely. Just because we are trained to be warriors, does not mean that we have zero empathy. Marines can be very emotional and that love for each other and the brotherhood is what makes us so strong. Empathy is what makes me want to do anything for my fellow Marines.

No. That separates us from, oh, say ISIS, NAZI's, or a thousand others throughout history.

People without empathy have mental health issues and need "special handling". People like that are not desirable company in any setting.
