Ok so I'm a 17 year old guy . I have a problem where I look angry all the time . Mainly it's due to me being so annoyed with my anxiety and that I can't be calm. It did start one day where I though I was too happy go lucky and I needed to be more seeious and it spiralled . So what can I do to snails more . I feel like an idiot when I smile and I have no idea why.
What was wrong with being happy go lucky? A happy go lucky guy can be serious when need be, there has to be a balance. One can't always be happy and smile but it isn't good for the spirit to give in to anxiety...esp. at your age. Life has a big ol spit ball aiming right at your blackboard, kid, so you gotta embrace being happier again. The willingness to find things to smile about will ease your annoyances and anxieties.
Have you tried deep breathing, or even yoga to help you relax. Yoga is extremely calming, even the most physically demanding poses bring calm afterward.
What do you enjoy doing? Creative things? I am an artist and poet, and when I create, it makes me happy, I smile. What makes you happy to do? Do it, and it will bring a smile to your face.
For some people it is actual effort to smile because they naturally look angry and it seems to take up more muscle effort to smile than others who naturally smile all the time. You can call it "BRF" (Bitchy Resting Face).
I have a smiley hanging on my computer screen and in my car to remind me to smile more. The more I smile, the more friendly people are to me. You reach way more if you look friendly.
People are nicer, more helpful, more forgiving ... to you if you seem friendly. Try it for one day, smile all day - I don't mean a crazy smile, just a normal smile. You'll see how differently people will treat you.
I suggest you practice, practice, practice finding reasons to smile and then just frikkin' do it. Reward yourself every time you do. A big part of therapy is learning to 'Act As If.' If you act happier and smile more, you'll probably find more reasons to do it. Smiling even stimulates serotonin, the same brain chemical targeted by most of the antidepressants in use today.
I'm the opposite; I smile too much. But it's my way of saying "Hi" "bye" "thanks" "don't know what you said and I'm going to walk away now." I'm hearing impaired. It's what i do best since I'm not prone to awesome social skills. but I'm fairly certain no one sees my smiles and thinks I'm happy all the time or something. In fact, I think most people just find it annoying. But hey, I basically don't care what they think.
I guess maybe... you could try and find a reason to smile more and it might make it easier to do. Maybe do it for some of the reasons I do it... as a way of saying "hi" to someone walking by you who is also smiling, or says "Hi." Observe your surroundings more and it might be easier, since you mentioned you don't smile b/c of anxiety. It's easy to lose your anxiety in short bursts if you pull your head out of your "head" and look at the World in front of you. Or you could read a lot of jokes? lol

Sometimes it's difficult to smile. Hopefully that doesn't last too long.
