Odd question, I know, but I've always been annoyed with this. When showing a picture, or referring to a baby, why do they say the word "baby" first? "Here is a picture of baby John!" "I got to meet baby John yesterday."
We can see that John is a baby. We don't say "I had coffee with Adult Jim yesterday".

Well, the only time I've ever heard a baby's name phrased that way was when they had the same name as their parent, so it was said that way in order to differentiate between the two.

This is what I was thinking. If the baby's dad is also John, you would have to add "Baby" because if you just said "I saw John yesterday" it sounds like you saw adult John.
I think you are nitpicking. You don't have to call the baby, "Baby John." But it is a free country and others can do what they like. It isn't as if there is a rule about this.
As a matter of fact, we called all our kids "Baby Bxxx" until toddlerhood.

I think that's a great idea, about saying "Adult Jim"! Or if someone asks your age, and if you're 40 years old, just answer that you're 480 months old.

Lol. She merely expressed an annoyance. Not a request for legislation. I don't even think she was calling for any type of boycott.
OP, I wonder if it's a regional thing. I don't think I've heard it before in Canada or the northeast. I notice when people say 'look at the little baby' and they're not referring to his size.

Why, though? Where did it come from? Just want to learn more.
