I have always worked with both men and women. I can tell you that there are women who do not have fancy hairstyles, just plain neat ones. Not all women wear makeup and perfume. I have only seen these things consistently among female executives, but even a few of those were on the plain side - their ability more important to their company than their appearance. They were still neat and no body odors.

As for men. They indeed were expected to be clean shaven if they didn't sport a regular beard. They smelled nice from after shave or men's cologne. Their clothes were clean and pressed, not smelly and wrinkled.

Few places would tolerate workers that smelled bad.

Leaks are because heavy periods flood. A lot comes out at once when you move, and it overwhelms the available absorption.

In theory, you could "get someone" (floating paras and/or crisis intervention specialists) to monitor your students so you could duck out. In theory.

In practice, possibly somebody was available, and typically not when you need them.

But regardless of how much over 100ml you are losing, didn't the doctor who gave you the transfusion explain how serious that is? Didn't they refer you to a gynae for testing and didn't that gynae tell you how serious it is? They don't just give you a transfusion because you're a bit shaky, they give it because you're in serious danger. You're waffling on about the pill, but tranfusions can kill you outright, or more likely make it hard for you to have children.
Well, considering pads don't hold a lot, and I've never actually measured (except for the times I've tried the feminine cups) I might be exaggerating, but I did lose enough iron to need a transfusion, which highlights that it is a pretty serious problem.

Since it is that much of a problem, there are things that can be done medically to lessen the loss of blood. Have you talked to a gyno about this?

Yes, I was prescribed a whole year's worth of birth control pills, now depleted, and scheduled for an ultrasound. The ultrasound did show cysts on my ovaries. The doctor scheduled me for a follow-up ultrasound, and I missed the appointment (I think I forgot). I did make another appointment after I got insurance through one of my jobs, though. I'm still waiting to be seen.

Well, here's an update:

I'm really tired from waking up at 1:30. A student escaped today and I didn't notice; that's how tired I was. When I asked the officer what happened and she responded with, "I bet you've never seen that before!" I had to ask her what she was talking about. She laughed in disbelief and joked about me not being a blonde while walking me to the door. Gee, if inattentive person of the year were an actual award, I might win it.

In other news, though.

I did take a shower this morning. I did put on clean clothes. I haven't done my laundry yet because I don't have a washer or dryer in my apartment, and the machines don't take cash. You also have to load the cards in the office; there isn't a way to load them at the on-site facilities. That's inconvenient, because the office closes at 5:00. I'll try to remember to do something, though.

nice! now make it a routine or set your phone to remind you ... or put up a board at home on the wall with a schedule on it.

It would really benefit you to see to this issue medically. With all the challenges you already have, the absolute lack of energy you're clearly experiencing is COMPLETELY exacerbated by the low iron/blood loss. Believe me that I know exactly what I'm talking about, here. It is extremely hard to function in the best of circumstances when you're losing this much blood through menorrhagia, let alone when you are dealing with other challenges. My issues weren't PCOS-related, they were endometriosis/endometrial polyp-related. But it is definitely something that warrants treating, and you should really make it a priority.

As you can see, limited energy seriously affects your capacity to concentrate, which is the case of the population you work with, can have extremely dangerous consequences.

Well done showering today.

Did you know that difficulty concentrating is a symptom of anaemia? And sleep disorders are a big autism spectrum symptom, too?

For the pill or IUD, see how soon your local planned parenthood could see you. They charge on a sliding scale, so it might be affordable without insurance. If the doctor you've chosen can't get you in, find another. This is not a well visit, it's a sick visit because of the amount of blood loss (even if you'd misjudged, 'only' 100-200 ml is very excessive and they will be concerned).

Have you ever used melatonin? Apparently it can be very useful for spectrum related sleep disorders.
