Ok so here's the scenario. I play in a worship band these days, playing in church. Serving in this way is just that, serving for the good of the congregants to bring them into worship. This is an unpaid volunteer position. Some times people compliment me or us sometimes not.
The problem or challenge is our lead singer. He decides that he is under appreciated and will no longer sing.
Can someone explain this action. Have dealt with this before in him. And then eventually comes back all is fine for a while, then back in the dumps of the poor me attitude.
Thoughts?
It is made worse by the fact that you are all in a praise band, which is in itself supposed to be a form of worship of God, not of the band members.
Hopefully the lead singer will have an actual "Come to Jesus" moment and realize that he's doing it wrong. If he doesn't, you and the other guys may have to make an uncomfortable decision.
He feels under appreciated by the congregation, and the church employees.
I'm not a musician but I do performance art. I do it because I love it, not really for appreciation by strangers/near strangers. I enjoy applause and praise but I'm 90% there for ME to enjoy myself.
Unless he's put out by being taken advantage of on his time or whatever, he just has an ego problem.
excuse me for simplifying, but he really should be doing it because he enjoys it and/or feels called to do it (share his talent with like minded ppl)
There's always someone else that would like to sing. Go tell em' to sit down and hush.
