What is love? It is nothing more than an illusion. What we call love, is nothing more than a chemical reaction that occurs in the brain, and as most chemical reactions, it doesn't last forever. Love isn't any better or worse than other chemical reactions (emotions and feelings), such as hate, anxiety, fear, grudge, etc. It is not meant to last and what keeps people together, are other factors, including the fear of dying alone. People fool themselves into believing they are in love when they really aren't.

Your main purpose in life in existing, do as all other living creatures do, live, procreate, then die. Everything else we have constructed from love, materialism, society rules, etc are just ways of sugarcoating a mostly meaningless existence, give ourselves a sense of purpose and drive. Why do you think human beings enjoy beauty though it usually has no utilitarian value (such as flowers, nature, etc.)? because to revel in simple existence is the purpose of life.

This is why sex and love feel good because they guarantee the continuance of the species, it just a mean to an end. Even, happiness, is nothing more than another emotion/feeling, there is not such thing as a constant state of happiness, yet stupid humans constantly pursue it so much, why? because happiness, guarantees your survival and existence. In the end, it all boils down to existence. You have no greater purpose beyond this

So now that you have proven it to us, are we going to stop falling in love and being happy. The answer is a resounding NO because it sure beats the alternative!

This thread was the consequence of a bunch of chemical reactions and electrical impulses coursing through your brain so I therefore conclude that it is nothing more than an illusion.

Existing is not a purpose. One has no control over being born. Humans exist to make meaning of their lives, and what you actually do while you exist is a purpose. One's choices help to define one's purpose in life. Almost universally, people find their purpose in their work or their families or, if they are fortunate (IMO), in both. The ones with no purpose at all are human biologically. But in spirit? They barely exist.

Hmm, 46 years and still I love him. I guess for me, love is forever.

A chemical reaction is not an illusion. It's, you know, an actual event.

Bingo!

And if love is an illusion, that must mean our existence is. Right, OP?
