The statistical likelihood of any given public school student being killed by a gun, in school, on any given day since 1999 was roughly 1 in 614,000,000. And since the 1990s, shootings at schools have been getting less common.

Children don't need adults freaking out and passing their panic down to their children.

It's not just immigrants that are scared, it's all kids. There weren't 250 mass shootings in 8 months during the Obama administration. And immigrants kids were not as scared then because they didn't do it like this, they didn't yank families apart and send parents back while shipping kids off to strangers across the country. People weren't beating and bullying immigrant kids at school, people weren't shouting. Go back where you came from!" then, Now they've been given permission, There weren't rallies where Obama joked and laughed about shooting immigrants. But again, the article is not about immigrants only. That's just what katie45 feels is her gotcha" argument so that's what she's gonna harp on here.

Plenty of adults worried about the scary orange man, too.

Where on earth did you get this bogus stat from? They are scared of mass shootings, and for good reason. Again, 250 so far this year. 250. How you gonna tell them there's no reason to worry? So far the biggest seller of the new school season is bulletproof backpacks.

Right, all this stuff only started happening after January 20th, 2017.

Actually the rise in racism and white nationalism began anew after Obama's election, but this administration has put it on steroids. All FBI stats point to a steady rise in white nationalism and hate crimes. And no, little brown children children with yarmulkes, and others who stand out either religiously or racially, were not bullied and beaten in the numbers now being recorded. As for mass shootings, there have been 250 in 8 months of 2019. That number speaks for itself.

What constitutes a mass shooting and how many were there in, say, 2015? Or 2011? Or 2009?

My suggestion is for children who are scared to limit their time spent on any kind of media. Develop situational awareness, improve conflict resolution skills, and teach them to trust their instinct and act on it. Worrying should not be a constant state to be in. Instead, it should create a response that resolves the problem, which is causing the worrying. Otherwise, the situation is out of their hands and they should stop thinking about it and move on to other things.

One thing I never liked was being told to live life as if it meant being out in a public area at 2 am in the morning with other drunks.

It's not ALL kids.

It's adults choosing to watch partisan fake propaganda, believe bogus numbers and spread it online.

Guess what, kids are buying back to school clothes and supplies, excited to meet their new teachers, playing sports, having end of the summer family vacations, they are not cowering in fear, life is going on, we are lucky to live in the US.
