What do you think Alan's mental health issues are in the Hangover movie series? The catalyst for each movie's chain of events is some utterly sociopathic action on his part, and he continually exhibits bizarre (but in many ways plausible) behaviors throughout each movie. Do you think the movies' writers just threw in a salad of stereotyped behaviors or do you think they're loosely following a specific diagnosis?
Sociopathic? No. I notice some cluster C personality traits. My guess is Dependant Personality Disorder if anything. I've had this discussion with some friends a while back. I've never been into the Hangover movies but I saw the latest one a few weeks ago. I, too, wondered if the writers had an actual personality type in mind or if he was just meant to be 'quirky'.
I've heard several different people say that I remind them of Alan from the Hangover. He just looks like an ENFP 9w1 with some ADHD, Aspergers, and some Dependence thrown in.

Well, I didn't think he was an actual sociopath - just that his behaviors were kind of sociopathic. I think a lot of mental illnesses can mimic narcissism or sociopathy in specific instances, while the person could not really be classified as BEING a sociopath or narcissist. I mean, the very nature of mental illness is that it's isolating and prevents you from relating to others in a healthy way.
But I totally see the Dependant Personality Disorder. I was gravitating more to Cluster B since he has that lack of empathy.
I just find it an interesting little puzzle to unravel
Nothing. He's funny and a nice person to be around.
