Maybe not get rid of it but lessen it. My daughter and her son have so many problems they gave me an ulcer that woke me up last night. I have zero enthusiasm for anything. I stay in the house with my husband who had a hip replacement and he does almost nothing but sit and eat . He's very sweet; no problem there. But I'm so down when I wake up I don't want to get out of bed and face the monotonous grind of laundry and cooking. I do *not* wish to take any prescription medications so what can I do? Are there any people on here who swear by alternative medications? Thanks in advance.
Standardized St. John's Wort is a VERY powerful anti-depressant, and available over the counter. I took it for years, and it worked better than the two different prescription ones the doctor had tried on me.
IF you are taking any other meds though, check and make sure there's no interaction with it. Also, IF you start taking it, please make sure to mention it to your doctor if you have to see him, or are planning any surgery.
I used SJW at a point, but it elevated BP and caused nose bleeds...Got off that quickly.
Wow, that is too bad I used it for several years, and already did have high BP - controlled with meds. I found it was a great help. But people should def let their doctors know they're going to take it.

You need to do something thrilling, that you think is kind of wild. For example, take a mask and snorkel to a local river and snorkel around looking at the fish. Or go buy a bicycle and pedal around. Or go to a local kayak rental on a lake and rent a kayak for a couple hours.
I agree with the others who have said get outside and walk around in the sunshine, that's good too. But doing something that you secretly think is kind of wild, is thrilling.
You're stuck. In a rut. Move forward. Out of it. With an adventure.
I think you'll have to take a multi-pronged approach:
- get rid of the drama
- look over your diet
- get your thyroid tested
- consider short-term therapy (several sessions)
Hope that you feel better soon!
Yep, Start with a good Dr who takes time to listen. I'm a big believer in using exercise to release endorphins to get you going. The biggest issue is between your ears, not a joke but we can certainly dig ourselves into a deep hole by overthinking . Some medications can be the answer, but you also need to get on a positive track that will build your strength. We all hit low points, forcing yourself to go to the gym, or a walk can change your mood, improve your health...all positive...sounds simple, it's not if you're in a rut...fight thru it... Good luck.
If you are over forty, have your hormones checked. Hormone imbalance causes depression. So does hypothyroidism. Google foods for depression and start eating them and avoid ones that tend to cause it like alcohol and sugar. Take a good vitamin mix like from the Life Extension Foundation or Youngevity Tangy Tangerine. Get outside for a half hour walk. Meditate, listen to classical music or rock and roll that is uplifting and fun.

The Mediterranean Diet reduces risk of depression:
There's CBD oil (cannabidiol) at a cost of maybe $30 for a 1 oz bottle. Because the THC is very low (under 0.3% or even 0%), it's not going to get a person "high", but can still help dozens of conditions. The best amount to take will vary from one person to another or from 1 condition to another, but 1 oz is likely to be enough for most to tell if they feel better. Many mfrs suggest 25-50 mg daily, but using up to 3,000 mg isn't unheard of, but likely unaffordable for most. Just type in CBD oil for sale and a great many sellers will be listed. It's sold in gel caps, oil to be swallowed, or as an inhaling mist used with a pen vaporizer.
It is from hemp plants bred for CBD content. It's legal in all 50 states and can be shipped across country, because of very little if any THC. There's a thread on it on C-D medical forum. Best wishes.

You have to find a hobby, something you enjoy doing to shift your mind from being depress to focus on something you like to do. Don't say you don't have anything you would like to do, there's always something you can do, is all about whether you are willing to look for it or not.
I agree with this. Preferably find a hobby where you are moving around, like hiking.
I think you are smart to avoid medication.
Also try & incorporate some walking in Nature. Find a nearby park & walk.
Bingo.
Hiking did it for me. Can't help but be happy out hiking on a nice sunny day.
That and hypnotherapy.
Did not want to go on meds, side effects worse than the cure.
