When someone gives me a gift I don't want, I keep it anyway because I worry that they'll ask to borrow it or want to see it again for some reason, you know, to remind themselves of the brand because they want another one.
I haven't shaken that fear, and keep everything people give me as gifts.
When I had a front loading washing machine, I wouldn’t close the door and start the cycle without first going to find my cat to make sure that she hadn’t somehow snuck in with the laundry (even though I was 99% sure that she wasn’t in there). Now that I have a top loader, I don’t worry about it.

That's not crazy, though. It has happened, with both the washer and the dryer. People have accidentally killed their pets that way. Google it, if you want--but you don't really want to, trust me.

I did Google it and I was horrified! I just thought it was weird to worry about it in my case because I knew she wasn't around at the time that I was putting the laundry in, but I would still walk all the way upstairs to find her and make sure that she hadn't somehow slipped in without me noticing. I also have to make sure I see her right before I leave for work because I did once accidentally lock her in a closet all day.

Ha, I did that once, too. Came home from work and fed my cats and one did not come for her food. She was in the walk-in closet in the bedroom all day.
Ran right for the litterbox when I opened the door.
You were seriously born into a cult? That has to be an experience unlike any other.
Yes. It is a very traumatizing experience. I regularly battle with the fear and control the group had over me and my family (1/2 of them are still in deeply)

I am so sorry.
What a horrible thing to have to go through!

There are a couple of people with similar experiences on the R&S forum. I give them credit for escaping, but some are still the mourning the loss of family members who won't speak to them anymore.
