To an extent yes.
Having done courses through work on conflict resolution and difficult clients etc, you learn the types of behavior they employ.
Things like ad hominem attacks etc are tools you recognize as irrational and poor communication skills, and not to be entertained.
I have had to completely wipe some people in the workplace. (which is lose-lose, but sometimes the only option)
In other instances, I can cope better with nasty individuals, and not let them get to me.

I think I have just learned a different approach that works better. Rather than pummeling (usually mentally more than physically) idiots, rude D bags and the like, I just ignore them.

In my early 60s, I have learned to concentrate on what matters, and let everything else go. Makes life much easier.

I'm not sure what "thick skin" means but I learned that life is short and I shouldn't waste it on unimportant things or people.

If thick skin means intolerance, indifference and apathy then count me out.
I'll take compassion, empathy and the ability to weather the storms. As my wise friend says..we each have moments that we need to reset ourselves.
So far those moments have been life lessons . I'm still trying to be thick skinned around a dish of dark chocolate, but dern if it doesn't sway me to have a few! Resistance is futile!
