I have been more or less kind of socially awkward for most of my adult life, and for this reason I started talking to a psychologist a few weeks ago.
However, one thing that I think feels a bit funny is that she is a woman who is about my age (I am 32 and I think that she is 36), and I have considered bringing up my experiences with women throughout my life (which is basically that I have distanced myself from them whenever they have shown interest in me, because I always feel that I have to be perfect in front of strangers, and this is especially true among women).
It feels a bit weird to have discussions about something that in some sense includes her as well, just because she happens to be a woman who is my age, and then I will sit there and talk about women, lol.
Wouldn't this be slightly different from talking about this in front of a male psychologist?
I feel like there are going to be some sort of funny vibes between me and her because we are of the opposite sex and because I am pretty much talking about "people like her" (in other words, women my age), even if she will of course try to handle it professionally.
I mean, I don't really have any problems with this, I am mostly just curious.
Psychologists are trained to be focused on your issues and to not take anything personally. I would not worry, but change to a male if you feel uncomfortable, nothing wrong with that.

Agreed. She's a trained professional and will not take your comments personally, but if you feel like you can't be truly honest and open with her because she's a woman, then maybe she's not the right therapist for you. She can't help you if you can't talk to her.
If it's something that is bothering you, you should definitely tell her. That's why you're paying her.
