I struggle to get through the short dark days. I longingly wait for the light to last.

I enjoy summer nights...the clear sky...and a gentle breeze. That style of darkness is a reprieve. But no...not 14 or 16 hours of overcast gloom.

And sunny days are a joy . So place me somewhere warm...breezy seaside with sunny days and crisp clear evenings. Not sure if light deprived is a healthy thing as I recall that used as a form of torture and disorientation to some prisoners....

Er, not really.

I also lived for 30 years much further north, so I'm pretty clear on that climate, as well.

I prefer the shorter days. I prefer a mix of sunny and gloomy days.

I love short days and dark "gloomy" weather all day long. It's so much more calming, forgiving, and cozy.

Sunlight is too loud and harsh, and anything over 60F is too hot. Even when wearing sunglasses, the being in the sunlight makes me squint.

Am I the only non-sun worshipper?
Move to Denmark. You will change your mind.

OP, you're not alone. People who sweat profusely don't like bright sunny weather, which means hot, for sure. And I believe there are lots of people who sweat a lot.

I don't sweat a lot, but when there is an extreme side, I would prefer a day with lots of snow and -45 C than a very bright sunny day and +45 C

I was kind of down my first summer in San Francisco; then I went to Marin one day and realized I'd been missing the sunshine.

That said, I like sunny days if I don't have to be out in the sun. Kicking back with a nice cool drink in the shade is lovely. Balmy nights are delightful.

High humidity is the big problem for me, so I'm looking forward to moving someplace drier.

I don't think I'd like to live in a place that was sunny most of the time. I do enjoy the sun, but I love the respite of autumn and winter.

That said, I nice sunny break in the middle of winter is always welcomed.

I am another no heat, and no bright sunshine person. I love drizzle, and partly to mostly cloudy days with the blue sky peaking out, and a little sunshine. It feels gentle, and good on my skin. When I lived in Colorado the intense summer sun felt like it was singeing my skin even though it wasn't actually burning it. I guess that was because of the higher altitude. Depending on the location my active times of the year are fall (my favorite), winter, and spring. In western Washington (the olympic peninsula) the summer days were long, lasting until 930pm to almost 10pm. But it cooled off nicely at night so the long evenings were glorious, the mornings too. Except during their rare heat waves. Those didn't last very long. I would just go inside during the warmer bits. But that was the only place I could stand the summers. Or at least certain parts of it.

This last Oct 2nd I ended up at my daughter's in Raleigh, NC because of a divorce. Raleigh hadn't gotten the message yet that it should have cooler fall weather, and I about died. I could only imagine how hot the real summer would be so I got on a senior apartment list up in the mountains in Boone. But after 5 months the list wasn't moving, and my daughter was sick of me being there. Btw, the winters were very nice. I'm in eastern, Oregon now, as of Feb 20th. It does have warmer summers, and colder winters than the Olympic Peninsula, but not beastly like the south, or so it says in the descriptions. I will have to see for myself. At least I have my own little place now. Although I do feel at loose ends not knowing anybody, and having to adjust yet again.

Here is a link to my dormant thread on adjusting to NC hot weather. Some of us can never adjust though. There are a few more non hackers on there that can't stand the heat. We are not alone. Guess I should update it sometime telling the world that I wimped out, lol.
