There are HOAs and HOAs. Some are designed to provide common services and to maintain a nice community. In other words, for the fee this is what you get.

Others, especially ones in Florida dominated by retirees, seem to be more about control - for the fee, this is what you can’t do.

And the thing about satire...there is always a grain of truth.

HA! Oh no I have that!

Think I can qualify for disability?

This isn't satire. He's a renegade professor.

It is satire and a very funny essay- based on the DSM 5. It's nice to see that some psych profs see how much satire can be derived from psych diagnoses.

I get hyperbole, not satire.

I’ve owned a townhouse condo at a ski resort since 1993. You cede control to a board of directors and the results of votes at an annual meeting. In 25 years, there are certainly some things I disagree with but I’m not going to get worked up into a purple snit over them. I also own a single family home. I have building code and zoning ordinances I have to live with. I’m not Thoreau in a cabin in the woods. I live in a society that has rules.

So I guess the groups that have paid him to speak were advertising a comedy performance?

It's not satire. He's dead serious.

Just look at some of the things posted on CD. There are plenty of people who are angry, resentful, and paranoid over either their real HOA or their nightmares about imagined HOA's. Some of these rants have no basis in reality. //www.city-data.com/forum/searc...rchid=32094710

This is a link to a filed legal pleading (link). Nothing funny or satirical about it.

Bottom line we are all a part of society. Society has rules . When you don't live with rules it is then called anarchy and you don't want that believe you me . I think all of this hoa business is because people don't read the rules or bi laws when they move into the hoa community and therefore lies the problem . Know what you are moving into before you move into it . we had some friends who were thinking about buying a house in a certain neighborhood that when meeting with prospective buyers you had to present your w2 s to make sure you could afford the house . The husband did not like the idea but the wife did and guess what ? 6 months in they were selling and they finally sold and bought another place without an hoa and they were much happier . Like I said bottom line know what you are moving into before signing on the dotted line .

No, but seriously- I don't feel good in HOA, always felt like they taking my "freedom". Had some issues with the board.
There'll be always people on both sides, people love it, or hate it.
For me, never more.

I too had major issues with a HOA situation....let's just say after 3 yrs., I packed up and moved to a sfh with a few acres and definitely no HOA....
