I very rarely cry. I like to be stoic. But sometimes it's not possible.

Ok, mine.

My mom died. Me and my dad were sitting in the kitchen. We both hold it in. He said, "Do you miss Mom?"

I started crying and said "Yes"

Forget the stoic.

I have my sisters picture memorial book right here close to my desk and I look at her every day and sometimes I bring it down and leaf thru the pictures of her life and I break down...I'm tearing right now. Miss that gal she is 10 yrs younger than me and MS took her life. I keep in touch with her husband about once a month on the East Coast.

When me and a co-worker discovered that another co-worker with whom I was friendly had died in her house. She didn't show up for work that day which never happens so we went to check on her. The police found her dead in the bathroom. She wasn't that old either (34). I cried a lot that day. Then next week or so when in church we sang the hymn "Be still my soul" I started crying then too.

How depressing. Not going to go there.

If you want to talk about tears of joy, that happened just today, talking to ESL students I volunteer with, about good things that have happened to them, or how they prefer the weather in the SF Bay Area compared to Russia, etc.

But, I'm not going to get into any kind of depressing commiseration regarding sad things in my life that makes me cry. Yuck. Move on.

Life is full of joys and sadness and if we can come up with more joys, we're way ahead of the game. I surely can. But tears can be a good cleansing too. There are tears of happiness. I have laughed so hard I cried at some points in my life.

OP: Wonder why you like to be stoic?

I go to YouTube, play old songs, remember how blessed I was to have had great parents and a great wife ..... and then the tears of guilt start to flow for not telling them how much I appreciate them.

All I have to do is go onto you tube and look at the dogs and cats being rescued from a hell...I cry then.

This story is about a poor woman dying from breast cancer who takes her beloved dog ("her daughter") to the shelter with a hand written note pleading for them to find the dog a good home. The woman then goes home and blows her brains out. I couldn't stop crying.
