Its an insult when the person blantantly says...Dang you got a face only a mamma could love.....
Saying you photographed well in that instance is a compliment....
As a person who 98% of the time is NOT photogenic I can relate to those few captures that have at least shown some good quality to it in the background...or subject lighting....
some folks are their own worse critics...when accepting a kind word.
Its the old fight that goes on when a gent says...darling you look good in that dress....The women will say...Ohh so I dont look good any other time??? Poor Guy can't even give a compliment without backlash.....
Sounds like you might want to rethink how you receive compliments...usually a Thank you will suffice.
Maybe I’m crazy but I feel like people are saying you don’t look that good in real life.
This is your perception of what they said. Perception is a colored lens. They probably meant that the picture was a good copy of reality...the same as a photo of a lamp, a car, your dog, etc. The camera can't have an opinion by itself. If you don't like your looks you will assume it was an insult.
I don’t photograph well so if someone tells me I look good in a photograph I’m going to take as a compliment.
Me three.
