I got bored with the Outlander series pretty early, too, but I know that the "wedding episode" from the first season of Outlander got major kudos in the media (and among viewers) for having a pretty hot sex scene driven by the female gaze. Character driven, romantic, objectified the man as much, if not more, as the woman, etc.

OP, are you asking these questions because you're considering making a porn film?

Dime store Romance novels, in general, that cover the breadth of romantic interests make the point just the same.

Chicken vs egg. It isn't marketed at them because they aren't likely to consume it. There is content that's produced and marketed towards women, it just doesn't sell as well. Its like skin care products for men. Sure, some, even a lot of men, consume skin care products to a certain extent, but not to the extent that women do, even with both high end and mainstream lines marketed towards men.

You see advertisements for Asian or Russian women wanting men, but you do not see advertisements for Asian or Russian men wanting women, or any men wanting women for that matter. Maybe if you go into some special sites you will, but the keywords are special sites, compared to just any sites where they have to show sex advertisements in order to host video content.

There are women who like porn, but just because a woman likes porn doesn’t mean she’d be interested in an ad about men seeking women. Just because I’m watching porn doesn’t mean that I’m looking for a man. I’d go to a dating site for that, not a porn site.

The porn industry has always been marketed to a straight male audience. That’s where the profit is made. In the end however there’s something inherently sad about about a video genre that features numbing, grinding groaning, performing sex monkeys doing their business in front an audience to make a living.

Probably so but then again, men and women probably look at it differently. I think that if you get me talking during a movie, with my analysis from an art, movie making, and what else side, you will have the men unhappy because they can't enjoy the flick as they usually do.

One thing I have noticed about it, for example, is that it does an excellent job at the believing it is reality when we know, should know, that what we are watching is indeed movie magic, it is taking place on a set, on a sound stage somewhere. That we are watching a bedroom, right.....but if the camera was tilted up, we would see above those walls all the lights they must have. Film on location at a book store in Dullsville, Kansas? Really? They make booths that big? But never the less, we believe it is like that.....at least while we don't think about it.

Another change that I like, from the time of the Golden Age, is more focus on the face and less on the up close and personal. Well, at least the good stuff. I mean, who wants to see, boy or girl, the stunt man's rump?

Of course, one of the interesting things is the lack of seduction, of the strip scene, in boy girl stuff but in lesbian, it is intensely there.

Some of the stuff does an excellent job of communicating the oppression of the story, just like the Helen of Troy movie I watched last night; that is a sign of good movie making. Is oppression necessary? Well, that depends on why, for what, we are watching the flick. For example, in a Jennie Ketcham scene, where the story is that she is cheating right in front of her husband, she is begging "Please forgive me, please forgive me" and that is the kind of fantasy that one might be able to get into. In the Golden Age, Stacey Donovan was excellent on showing hurt on her face, such as when her boyfriend was hauled out by the cops in "Convenience Store Girls".

Of course, given her history, she might not have been acting at all.

Oppression can deliver that "punch" of the flick. In mainstream movies, in "Time Trackers", there is that statement about asking about one's fate, "You're going to kill me?" (Kathleen Beller) and that ramming home can be be feeling sought for from the movie. It was used there.....and it was used in a Nina Hartley video (the punch not the exact words).

Now, in the flick of the Golden Age, the cast might be fully dressed but then one releases that the shot is from the knees up and in reality, they are shoeless and hence, able to get undressed much easier.........

SEE WHAT I MEAN about different ways of watching the flick. For some, it is just about the "ole in out" but for some others of us, we can really get into it.

But you think that if heterosexual women wanted to rent a porn movie, they would want to see the guy on the cover too, for movies that were geared more towards heterosexual women.
It depends what fantasy we want to play. Take Bratgirl, for instance. Great title, wonderful box cover......but rather a lousy movie. I could get into that fantasy presented on the boxcover and take it from there.

Or, perhaps the late Jon Dough. That man looked incredible in a business suit. I have had fantasies of doing a Pretty Woman type shot with him. Or how about......

"Claudia (blonde) is a top notch Italian Counter Terrorism Operative. Bernice (brunette) is a street wise NYC cop. When these two come together to wipe out a drug ring using a flooring business as its cover at business luncheons, they will bring them to their carpet m******* knees! Don't miss......"Rug Wars"!"

Just thinking about such a box cover rather makes the flick unnecessary............but still, it might be fun to do.

As I said, it depends what we want to see in the movie.....and how we watch the flick.

All I can say, is that I was introduced to porn by a woman, (yes, a bisexual woman, but a woman all the same), and I know straight women that view porn on a daily basis, that without it, are just not satisfied.

Note; Those women that want men, well, I really don't think that's the whole story.

I watch porn, somewhat regularly, Im a visual person too and i need the tension release, I favor hetero porn, im also a hetero female, but i don't watch it for the men, i prefer looking at females. I watch the scene, and i seek out story lines. I dont read bodice ripping romance novels either, mostly because my brain is fried at the end of the day. It helps me sleep, it easy and i don't have to think. I don't consider it a substitute for the real thing, but good enough for this single girl.

Yeah, because it's trash. And I don't say that because of the content - it's the WRITING that is so bad, I thought it was satirical at first. I only read it out of curiosity, since as a librarian, I like to know what all the hype is about when a book is that popular. I think people who enjoyed it have never read any GOOD erotica, and were just excited about reading something racy without being judged. I've recommended other books to people looking for that, like the Sleeping Beauty quartet by A.N. Roquelaure (Anne Rice's pseudonym). If you're going to go that route, at least go with something that's well-written!

And yes, it's true that men are more visually-stimulated while women (typically) prefer a story... maybe we're better at creating our own fantasies, while men need it spoon-fed to them. No offense to men, but our brains are just wired differently.
