How well do you remember the layout of your old high school? (girls, people)

I was in HS in the 1990s, I could probably draw the entire layout of the school right down to the janitorial/mechanical/storage rooms that the students weren't supposed to be familiar with. Except for one wing they demolished and replaced with a different layout after I left.

i think I remember my grade school k-6 better than my high school. Grade school built during the Grant administration, was a standard 12- or 16-room 2-story block with straight central corridors, and I remember the location of every grade..

HS, as best I can recall housed 600 students grade 7-12, on two floors with a U-shaped central corridor, and partial basement.

I remember most of it but my old school has had some parts remodeled in years since .

Everything except what has been remodeled and renovated. Since I drew floor plans while doodling in class when bored, I had come up with revised versions that turned the high school into a castle since it had an enclosed courtyard next to the cafeteria on ground floor and a series of connected wings two of which housed the middle school.



The entrance looked like one with a gothic covered entryway with three story tower above it and nice gothic style in the lobby vestibule. Everything else was standard institutional wide halls lined with lockers and high windows in the old original section built in late 1920s. They've renovated more of it since last visit but I guess I could still figure out the floorplan from looking at it as school architecture and layout are some of the most simple in design.

I was only there for two years (ending in 1980), but I could make a very good map. It was big but pretty well organized. I could give approximate locations (floor, side of building) of all my classes.


I could also do this for junior high, elementary school, and primary school. But I went to kindergarten at a different primary school, and for that one all I could give you is that when you faced the kindergarten classrooms, mine was the one on the right. I could draw a diagram of the inside of the classroom, though.


DH can't even remember the names of any of his teachers.

I remember none of it, but then I did not like high school. I could draw a map of my children's high school (where I taught for a couple of years) and of my grandchildren's high school where they are now.

Pretty well. Not totally, though. And there are parts I don't remember at all, since I didn't use them, like the guy's phys ed area.

Mine was a hodgepodge of interconnected buildings of various ages. A 1930s structure with wood floors and huge double hung windows. A mid-1950s 3 level structure. A mid-1960s single level structure. Other structures for auditorium, gym, cafeteria, auto shop, and music tacked on to those. I could generally sketch out the layout but it wouldn’t be all that accurate.

My high school was massive, (3 campuses). One was mostly the Freshman/Sophomore Building, one was primarily the Junior/Senior building. (not including the separate buildings for Music/Band, the Library, and some "temporary" classrooms (trailers). I could do the Freshman/Sophomore building to a good extent. (Mostly the hallways. I couldn't give you exact classroom numbers/locations, closets, etc. And only the locations of Some of the bathrooms.

So what about you? If you were asked to draw a map of your HS, at least as it was when you were in, how well could you do?

Easy, 600 students. grade school school? a snap as it was burned into my memory....Now why would I remember them? Don't know, but I Also remember my jr high also...

I left mine in 1977....
